dear Mikki and Katie…

serious topic this week. i promise that next week will be lighter and full of rainbows. as i sit watching you grow and evolve on almost a minute to minute basis, i am realizing that you will actually grow up. even though in my eyes you will always be my little girls, still playing in the tub and splashing and laughing and creating worlds of your own, the inevitable will happen.

if i had to offer any advice to anyone in the whole wide world, but especially to you two, it would be this: love and respect yourself. this will make life infinitely easier for you in the long run. whether you are 5 years old, 25 years old, or 55 years old, {or older!!} you will always find sad people who will try and strip you of your self worth and dignity. {as you would say Mikki, they are really NOT filling your bucket} loving yourself is easier said than done…it’s a constant struggle.  and you know what is worse…sometimes even YOU will  feel badly about YOU too.  remember to be nice and gentle to you because you are amazing. {Mommy knows these things}

i used to confuse self love with confidence, but as i get older i am starting to realize that they are completely different things.  confidence is something you can fake; you can even convince yourself that you are confident. love and respect for your inner you is something that has to be genuinely felt and worked toward.

and while you guys are working on it, i will work on it too. every day.

all my love darlings,

Mom

Kristel - Mandy, your girls are so very fortunate to have such a wonderful mom! I wish I had even half your talent at writing! I also really love the picture, beautiful work once again!

lauri - :sigh: your girls are so blessed to have a mom with such words of wisdom.

Angela2932 - Mandy, you are such a wise woman, and what a gift to your girls that you are taking the time to write this down. What a great portrait! I love how there's "stuff" in the background on the right, and she's facing away from the camera, looking off to the left, looking totally and relaxed in her body language, her eyes wide, her mouth open. She looks ready for anything, and expecting it to be good!

shirley - Mandy, I love how transparent you are to your children. Serious stuff, stuff they need to hear, stuff we need to hear. Thank you for putting it out there.

Bobbi - Ugh I just wrote this and it didn't save lol! Please write a book so I can buy it! Mandy you are an amazing, creative, and wise woman. Your girls are so lucky to have you and I feel so lucky to "know" you.
