Daily Mantra:”The heart is forever inexperienced.”
{henry.david.thoreau}
As I was driving on Route 17 between South Thomaston and Augusta on last Sunday’s snowy night, my hands gripped so tightly to the steering wheel that my knuckles almost looked translucent in the halo of other headlights, I thought a great deal about ‘close calls’. Mikki sat quietly in the back, knowing visibility was so poor that I was unable to keep up with our usual car banter. Katie slept quietly…for once. I had just barely missed hitting a car in the opposite lane of traffic…the driver in front of me had pulled over quite suddenly and there was no where else to go but to swerve dangerously onto the other side. Close call…I had thought as I sighed a deep breath of nervous relief. Do you ever think about all of the times that you were close to an accident that would have been life altering, or close to loosing a loved one, or even close to getting into trouble for something you did, and for some reason or another, you were spared? Perhaps you took one road instead of the other that night, or a different figurative road. Life is so delicate, and I guess I am rambling now…more about the complete randomness of it all.

How scary! I am glad you all are ok and nothing happened. I HATE driving in wintery weather. It scares the crud out of me! I love your photo. Perfect as usual!

This is a really lovely image, Mandy! And yes, I think about near misses a lot, but especially at this time of year. And now my 15yo is about to get his permit. Yikes!
Oh mandy, be careful! I’m so glad it was just a “close call”. Lovely necklace, where did she find that?
What a beautiful photo! I love the colors and feel to it. So glad you survived your hazardous drive!
Beautiful shot Mandy! Your post here gave me the chills, I’m so glad that you were ok. I’ve had a few close calls myself.
Beautiful, Mandy. That heart almost looks magical against M’s clear skin. Wisdom, in part, is recognizing those moments or forks in the road, and realizing that they are catalysts in our lives.
Love your creativity. do I ever think about a life changing situation? Yes believe it or not every day for 425 days straight. Watching your child lay in a coma and almost die will change your life forever. During the time “you” may not understand why things happen. But you know no matter what happens in life God is there to hold us up and help us continue in our everyday journey. So very happy you and the girls are home safe. Have a wonderful day and keep enjoying them.
Oh YES, I can totally sympathize! I have had so many close calls and I often wonder how or why I was spared when it could have been SO devastating. Someone bigger than us is definitely looking out for us and holding us in the palm of His hand when things like this happen, this much I know!
I adore this photo of Micki… that necklace is divine and I love her little hint of a smile.
Mandy! I love the tone of that turquoise heart with her red lips! Makes the photo dramatic and beautiful. As for driving, and wondering about things that could happen, I do it all the time. I don’t like to, but sometimes it’s hard not to think about. I’m so glad you and your family were safe… that is one scary situation to be in, especially having to swerve into the other lane, that is when things get close!
Oh, I’m glad you’re OK! Does this ever sound familiar! Sometimes I have to just force myself NOT to think of the close-calls, to compartmentalize all that stuff in my head, to keep going from one minute to the next. It’s always so much worse, though, when you have loved ones in the car and are determined to give them safe passage.
What a beautiful shot, I love the contrast of the bright blue and red against her creamy skin!
i think about that all the time.
when i see an accident that just happened. i wonder
why i was spared. why not me? not that i want it to be.
but i just wonder sometimes how i get so lucky and am waiting
for the ball to drop on me…
love the picture!
