Daily Mantra: “You have to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather way.” {abraham.lincoln}
So…school has begun…we are getting into the swing of things for the most part. I think. Kindergarten is full day here. I am finding it hard to:
(a) believe that Mikki is old enough to even be in kindergarten.
(b) have a structured schedule in the morning that consists of getting her fully ready before 7am, and still make her feel like I am not a drill Sargent…just her mom who has overslept by 15 minutes.
(c) entertain Katie without her.
and…
(d) ease her back into the home environment when she gets off the bus…
Maybe she is tired or has just been exposed to ‘kid world’ for too long, I am not sure. But she is in such a bad mood when she gets home! I am hoping that its just growing pains, and not a stage of pre-pre (yup two pre’s) adolescence.
Anyway…she still is cute.

I think going a full day is so hard the first year! But I am sure she will get into the swing of it soon…and you too – though I still haven’t…why can I never wake up on time
She is so cute and I just love the way she is holding her bear here.
She is a doll! My Mady started full day Kindergarten too, so I am in your shoes! I still hit the snooze about five times and she usually wakes me up. I need to get better about that! I love your photo once again and you have such a way with words!
We’re still fighting this with Ian. School wipes him out. Totally. Maybe give her 20 minutes to unwind before the house scene. Although easier said then done. I haven’t mastered that, myself.
Just stoppin by to get my Mandy fix.
love the teddy bear, the rubber boots and the big smile!! hope it gets easier!
She’s a cutie! Love your perspective in this shot.
I love this shots! She looks like a little fashionista. The boots are the perfect touch. She will calm down with the post-school behavior; it just takes a while for them to figure out the routine.
Oh that shot is awesome…they grow fast don’t they? Riley is 12 and in 7th grade…yikes!
Cari
I’ve missed your blog…for some reason I’m having a hard time getting my Google Reader to track it anymore…Anyway, right there with you on the school thing. And, WOW, those wedding photos are stunning! Just love all of the details you captured. You did such a good job.
She is beautiful!
School is tough even for 4th and 5th graders. They are so busy working and BEHAVING for their teachers that they just let go when they get home. You can be yourself at home.
She IS a cutie! Love the color here!
Yup, she is definitely a cutie! Love the outfit. Don’t worry about the crabbiness…she’s probably tired from all the changes to her daily routine. Plus, all that learning is tiring!
Love that shot. Those boots are adorable! What a cute expression you captured, too!
I remember those days when my oldest went to kindergarten. He always came home a little ‘out of sorts’ should we say? I always called the first hour when he came home his re-entry period, where he had to get used to me and his little brother again after being in school. And it seems my three other kids have had the same adjustment when they start school.
Oh girl… I sympathize! K only goes to preschool 2 afternoons a week, but she is SO grumpy and whiney when I pick her up! I keep hoping she will get into the groove soon and get used to it…
The strangest part is having 3 hours, 2 days a week with NO kids at all! I hardly know what to do with myself! (I end up doing housework or grocery shopping or getting some editing done- even though I really want to just RELAX and do NOTHING for a change! LOL).
I absolutely LOVE this photo of Micki- it is just SO “her”! That spunk and spirit just shines right through. And of course the galoshes make me smile.. I am a sucker for cute boots!
What good goals to try to keep all running well. Yes she is a cutie.
she looks ready for anything. i’m sure the transition just takes time. every day is a big day!
Love those boots. The colors in this are awesome together.
Super cute! I think what you’re describing is very common. All-day kindy is a long day, and they’re all bottled up from being good all day and let it all out when they get home. It should get better as she gets more used to her schedule. And I hear you about the drill sergeant thing. The hour before my kids go off to school is the most stressful part of my day–and they’re in 7th and 10th.
I forgot to tell you the other day to check out tshirt hell and busted tees (my son has the “Jesus Hates the Yankees” one)online for more funny tshirts. I’m pretty sure I saw the one you described at one of those sites.
Thanks also for sharing my blog with people. I love attention! (Well, unless I’m doing something embarrassing)
